NFC vs QR tags for Switchly

Both NFC and QR tags can trigger Switchly actions. You can use your own compatible tags too; official Switchly Tags are mainly the cleaner self-printed option made for the app.

NFC tags

NFC is best when you want a fast tap action. Compatible writable NFC tags can be configured in Switchly. A Switchly NFC tag is shipped with your selected action, looks cleaner than a generic sticker, and can still be rewritten later in the app if your routine changes.

QR tags

QR tags are best when the code should be visible or when NFC is not the right fit. The action is printed into the QR code, so it is not meant to be rewritten later.

Barcode actions

Barcode support remains an app feature in Switchly. The physical store currently focuses on NFC and QR tags, because those are easier to make cleanly in small batches.

Quick recommendation

  • Pick NFC if you want the most flexible physical trigger.
  • Pick QR if you want a visible scan code for a fixed place.
  • Use Mini for small spots, Normal for desks or walls and Keychain for portable routines.
