Critical stability hotfix for Switchly 2.3.0. Fixed a Blocker screen crash caused by unresolved theme attributes that could terminate the Switchly process when a blocked app was opened, leaving Android Accessibility enabled but Switchly no longer actively connected. This could result in apps no longer being blocked until Accessibility was restarted. The Blocker screen has been hardened to avoid the affected theme-resolution path while retaining the previous lifecycle protections. Also fixed a startup crash where an existing settings schema value stored as a different numeric type could prevent Switchly from launching. Settings schema migration now safely handles compatible numeric and legacy values. Includes minor code cleanup and additional stability hardening. This update is strongly recommended for all Switchly 2.3.0 users.
Major foundation, reliability and guided-setup update. Onboarding has been reorganized so optional setup stays out of the core flow and relevant pages such as Keys & Codes and Schedules only appear when their control channels are enabled. Permission setup now follows a clearer priority order, while Home Layout defaults to Standard and can be configured later. Many previously dead-end actions are now guided directly to what is missing: Premium purchases and Premium-code redemption can continue automatically after sign-in, Cloud Backup and Restore resume the requested action after authentication, blocked NFC/QR/Barcode and manual controls provide a direct path to Control Settings, Android Settings blocking links to protection setup when prerequisites are missing, schedule trigger permissions link directly to permission setup, and Premium-only theme controls link to Premium. Instagram Reels protection has been hardened for feed-to-Reel transitions using bounded delayed verification rather than continuous polling. AccessibilityService work, Usage Access fallback, foreground-service startup and Maps initialization have also been hardened to reduce crash and ANR risk. Google Play Billing has been upgraded to 9.1.0 with fresh-client reconnect handling, bounded query timeouts and one controlled retry when the initial purchase launch disconnects. Diagnostics now include a local event timeline, richer Billing and NFC state, Accessibility work-budget information, release/signing diagnostics and privacy-safe Crashlytics context. The Android build foundation has been modernized to compileSdk 37, AGP 9.3.2, Gradle 9.7.1, Java 17 and built-in Kotlin while intentionally retaining targetSdk 36 for this release. Build variants have also been separated more clearly: direct full and Firebase Email APKs use external Premium checkout, the Play Store build uses Google Play Billing, and the Offline build remains independent from online payment flows. The release also includes extensive UI, onboarding, support, localization, string-resource and project-documentation cleanup.
Major protection, reliability and usability update with safer configuration changes, corrected usage limits and significantly improved YouTube in-app protection. Protection-sensitive edits now use a centralized Protection Change Gate with optional delays, persistent pending changes, restart and reboot recovery, cancellation controls and immediate apply actions while Switchly is fully disabled. Premium users can configure custom delays from 1 minute up to 7 days. Minutes per visit and Overall time limits now reset only under the intended conditions, Website rules support path-specific wildcards such as youtube.com/shorts/*, and protected controls provide clearer explanations instead of appearing as dead UI. YouTube Shorts, Subscriptions, Mini Player and Picture-in-Picture protection has been hardened for newer YouTube versions and against OEM Accessibility ANRs without relying on guessed taps or swipes. Unrelated NFC tags are now silently ignored, Google Play Premium checkout recovery is more resilient, Support diagnostics use a structured Markdown report, and App PIN and Emergency PIN handling has been strengthened with confirmations, current-PIN verification and safe Emergency PIN recovery while protection is fully disabled. Advanced Protection has also been reorganized, Wi-Fi permission setup is more reliable, unused resources were cleaned up and the Android toolchain was upgraded to AGP 9.0.1 and Gradle 9.1.
Reliability, protection and usability update focused on Accessibility hardening, scanner improvements and NFC write stability. Direct Android Settings search and deep-link access to Switchly's own Accessibility service controls is now protected across AOSP and supported OEM implementations, including Samsung, while unrelated Accessibility features remain available. YouTube protection performs less main-thread Accessibility tree work to reduce ANRs on slower devices. The main scanner now recognizes supported Switchly QR codes and barcodes in the same session, control-mode labels are standardized, and Manage QR Codes has a cleaner layout. NFC writing now pauses cleanly after interrupted or wrong-tag attempts until Try again is tapped, prevents repeated vibration loops and restores clear success feedback. Manage Profiles now clearly communicates its view-only state while protection is active, Website and In-app rule controls are aligned with App Rules, and Support, Android 14/API 34 compatibility, Android 15+ system-bar handling and general stability have also been improved.
Major Switchly 2.2 release with reworked protection, statistics, setup and reliability. Usage statistics now use consistent app-open counts, screen-time sources and date ranges, including a new Most Used Apps view and corrected Today tracking across local midnight. Android 16 Advanced Protection is detected directly and can use a limited best-effort Usage Access fallback for basic whole-app protection when Accessibility is unavailable. Apps hidden from the App list can now also be excluded from Switchly protection while keeping their configuration saved. The update also improves profiles and App rules, temporary and emergency access, NFC/QR/barcode actions, onboarding, vivo/iQOO Accessibility recovery, YouTube and website detection, Support diagnostics, Android 14/16 compatibility and general stability.
